Welcome to my website. I hope you will enjoy getting to know me and my writing. I have always written about subjects that intrigue and personally challenge me. In my first book, Choosing to Be Well, I set out to unravel the question of why people don’t do the things they know they should for their health. I then went on to explore how we can lose and maintain weight in a healthy, pleasurable style in my second book, The California Wine Country Diet. Since then I have focused on writing columns about a broad spectrum of life areas which affect how we feel and live—from dealing with clutter to maintaining relationships and everything in between. You can read these columns on my blog Healthy Living For Everyone. Recently, I brought my love of stories about romance and self-discovery to a novel set in the California wine country called Remembering Poppy Mountain.
I try to approach my writing with humor, sensitivity, and openness. My own life and over thirty years of experience as a psychotherapist have laid the foundation for my understanding of human nature. My academic background includes a B.A. in sociology from Barnard College, a master’s degree in education from Bank St. College, a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California, and a PhD in psychology from International College. I grew up in Connecticut in a blended family of seven girls. After college, traveling, and other adventures, I drove to California in my VW van. It was love at first sight, and I have been here ever since. I live in a small Northern California town with my husband and son, near the mountain cabin I built by hand many years ago. Life continues to greet me with new challenges and experiences. For this, I am grateful. (Below are photos of my writing cottage)
